A Message from Oxford’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Louise Richardson

Dear alumni,

Greetings from a very quiet Oxford. I’m sitting in my office in the Clarendon Building looking out at the beautiful Bodleian quad entirely empty of students and visitors. In the absence of the usual bustle, the University remains open.

I wanted to write to you as members of the alumni community to update you on how Oxford is adapting to the coronavirus pandemic.

We had eight confirmed cases in the student body when we broke for the Easter holidays. The timing of the break was fortuitous in that it has given us time to develop plans for moving all our teaching and assessment online for Trinity term.

We mobilised Bronze and Silver emergency management teams many weeks ago to help us anticipate the implications for a uniquely complex institution. Our international staff and student body belong to 39 colleges and 6 PPHs and many were conducting research, field-work and language training all over the world.

Responsibilities/Duties

  1. Raising awareness of equality issues and promoting change in Oxford10 Committee.
  2. Advising, when necessary, the Oxford10 committee about the effects of discrimination on the grounds of age, disability, gender, race, religion and sexual orientation.
  3. Acting as an advocate for and presenting the needs of members of ethnic minority groups, the LGBTQ+ community, and those affected by disability.
  4. Work with the Oxford10 Event Organisers in organising events for our diverse Oxford10 community.

Expected Effort

1-2 hours a week approximately.

Shared Responsibilities of All Committee Members
Although we outline in this document the obligations for being in positions on the Executive Committee, from time to time the President and other members on this Committee may require assistance with their duties. Being on the Oxford10 Committee is a team effort. Therefore, its members are expected to help each other and to occasionally pick up tasks or responsibilities beyond their remit. Examples of such duties include (but are not limited to) the following:

  1. Composing/posting of messages on various communication channels.
  2. Helping out event organisers with their events on the night (along with assistance on other aspects of event organisation).

Conformity to Oxford Alumni Network Guidelines
Along with the duties of their particular role, a member of the Oxford10 Executive Committee is expected to observe any guidelines from the wider Oxford Alumni Network that could be relevant to them (these are listed under their respective role descriptions). That member should inform and provide guidance for resolution if necessary, if Oxford10 doesn’t meet any of these guidelines.

COVID-19 (coronavirus) Update

March 2020

The health and safety of our guests and committee members is paramount to us here at Oxford10. We are closely monitoring the situation involving the COVID-19 virus and we are working within the guidance from Public Health England and World Health Organisation (WHO). We have cancelled all future in-person events until further notice.

We have also issued refunds for the cancelled events to everyone who booked tickets with us. If you have any questions please get in touch events@oxford10.com

  1. Improve website (e.g. change structure/layout, add functionality or adhoc).
  2. Give advice on how media platforms can be better used, or devise tools to better aid interactivity with general alumni members or between committee members.
  3. Fix bugs on website or other custom tools.
  4. Ensure website conforms to the Oxford Alumni Network’s logo and design guidelines.
  5. Inform, and provide guidance for resolution if deemed necessary, the Communications Officer if inconformity to the Oxford Alumni Network’s Social Media Advice for Alumni Groups is found.
